Vietnam targets developing 6G devices

Aug 21, 2023

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) has set up a working group to promote the development of 6G devices. 6G internet speeds estimated to be thousands of times faster than 5G.

In addition to studying and reviewing legal regulations on developing 6G devices, members of the working group will also appraise, test, and pilot such devices and learn from international experience for their development and application in Vietnam.

The working group will also take part in international research and development of 6G devices.

Earlier, the MoIC set up a steering committee to study and submit to authorized agencies a strategy and policies to create a legal environment for developing 6G standards and applications as well as information security, production, and commercialization of 6G devices in Vietnam.

The committee will collect studies and development standards from international organizations and other countries and work on forecasts for local and international telecoms markets, and then build a roadmap for the study, production, and commercialization of 6G devices, a 6G pilot, and supporting policies for Vietnamese companies.

The ministry said some universities and research institutes have started to study 6G.

Experts said 6G is the next level network and expected to create a new type of internet connection to help people better access the online world.

6G internet speeds are predicted to be hundreds or even thousands of times faster than 5G speeds, which are estimated to reach 20 Gbps.
