Vingroup has asked Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders to accelerate procedures for the group to start construction of the $11 billion Vinhomes Can Gio development.
“Vingroup has completed detailed planning, an environmental impact assessment, and a feasibility study to launch the project, and other procedures in parallel,” said Cao Thi Ha An, project development director of Vingroup, at a meeting between Ho Chi Minh City and the business community on March 6.
“Towards the goal of starting construction on April 30, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country’s reunification, we hope that the People’s Committee and other departments and branches continue to support and speed up the completion of the remaining legal procedures,” said An.

The group has also committed to ensure the conservation and promotion of Can Gio’s tourism strengths, especially the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, and follow the city’s development orientation to make Can Gio an environmentally friendly coastal city.
To exploit tourism potential, An also proposed that the city consider the assignment of a member unit of Vingroup to research and develop tourism.
“This project will be developed to ensure forestry environmental protection and biodiversity, and will be submitted to authorities for consideration and approval in accordance with the law,” An confirmed.
According to plan, Vinhomes Can Gio will have an investment of over VND282.8 trillion ($11.3 billion). When completed, the project will house around 230,000 people and welcome more than 8.8 million visitors per year.
Vingroup is also proposing to self-finance the research costs of a metro line from Ho Chi Minh City’s centre to Can Gio.
This research aims to ensure connectivity, synchronisation of technical infrastructure, and save investment costs.
Vingroup will closely coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City and consulting units to complete the research, and propose feasible plans to submit to the people’s committee for consideration.
