Surpassing nearly 500 nominations and registrations for the awards this year, through two rounds of survey and selection, Coca-Cola Vietnam won the honorable Golden Dragon Awards as a recognition for its continuous efforts in innovation pioneering, creativity, environmentally friendly transformation, and digital technology application in production, business, and corporate governance processes.

Mr. Bui Khanh Nguyen, Vice President of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at Coca-Cola Beverages Vietnam, stated, “The recognition we received at The Golden Dragon Awards 2024, including being among the Top 10 outstanding foreign-invested enterprises and winning the Best FMCG Category, underscores Coca-Cola Vietnam’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development. Our sustainability strategy, Our Choice, Our Future, focusing on three key pillars: Product, Planet, and People, has been the cornerstone of our efforts over the past three decades. It has guided us as we strive to make a positive impact in Vietnam and beyond.”

In its endeavor of transitioning to a greener economy and reducing carbon emissions, Coca-Cola Vietnam has initiated its efforts by establishing specific long-term goals. Anchored in the vision of realizing a World Without Waste, Coca-Cola aims to achieving the use of 100% recyclable packaging by 2025, incorporating a minimum of 50% recycled materials in our packaging by 2030, ensuring the collection and recycling of 100% of the bottles or cans they sell by 2030. Furthermore, Coca-Cola has set a global target for entire system to reduce net emissions by 25% by 2030, with the overarching ambition of attaining net zero emissions by 2050. Attaining zero waste to landfill across all operations also represents an ambitious long-term objective set forth by the company.

The company is at the forefront of implementing circular packaging practices in Vietnam, as evidenced by the introduction of COCA-COLA™ bottles crafted entirely from 100% recycled plastic since September 2022. This initiative has contributed significantly to the reduction of over 2,000 tons of new plastic consumption in Vietnam annually. Through strategic partnerships with plastic recyclers within the country, Coca-Cola Vietnam has successfully collected and recycled more than 40% of PET plastic packaging in 2023.

To achieve the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Coca-Cola Vietnam has advocated for synchronized solutions across the entire value chain. This entails identifying sources of greenhouse gas emissions and implementing measures to reduce emissions at every stage of the company’s operations, from sourcing input materials to production processes and onward distribution of products to consumers. This includes the adoption of biomass fuel for boiler combustion, which exhibits a lower greenhouse gas emission coefficient compared to conventional fossil fuels. Additionally, the company is actively phasing out gas-powered forklifts in favor of electric alternatives, optimizing our cold storage systems to decrease energy consumption, and implementing solar panels to generate electricity for production purposes. In 2023, these synchronized solutions enabled Coca-Cola Vietnam to surpass our target, achieving a reduction in carbon emissions by 1.7%, despite a 2.7% increase in production output.

In Vietnam, Coca-Cola has long been committed to corporate social responsibility and community contribution. The company has made positive contributions to the state budget and has played a role in community and social development. In 2023, the company has contributed to the community and society through various impactful programs and initiatives, such as: The ‘Zero Dong Tet Market’ bringing Tet joy to 6,000 families facing difficult circumstances; Bringing a magical Tet to thousands of difficult circumstances nationwide through the program ‘Happy Tet With Coca-Cola’, to name a few. Especially, through its flagship community support center initiative in Vietnam since 2015, EkoCenter, Coca-Cola has actively supported local communities in various ways, from water management, packaging & waste management, youth development, empowering women, to emergency relief.
