May 27, 2021

In the last two weeks of May, Nestlé Vietnam has donated nearly 60,000 nutritional products to over 20,000 frontline medical workers across 15 hospitals and medical centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to share their difficulties and support them in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

In recent days, the resurgence of COVID-19 cases has become a growing complication for Vietnam. As the whole country makes efforts to battle the pandemic, Nestlé Vietnam has quickly launched a new campaign to support frontline workers and healthcare personnel.

The company has granted nearly 60,000 beverage and nutritional products such as Nescafé Espressoda, Nescafé Viet, Nestea, and Nesvita worth more than VND1.5 billion ($65,220) to frontline medical staffs, doctors, and workers involved in pandemic prevention.

Tran Minh Dien, director of the National Children’s Hospital, said that, “The necessities have arrived at the right time to support the medical staff and doctors at National Children’s Hospital, who are striving to serve the patients to ensure the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like to acknowledge and thank the company for accompanying and supporting the hospital during this difficult period.”

Binu Jacob, managing director of Nestlé Vietnam, said, “I believe that with the highest determination of the government and the unanimous cooperation of organisations, individuals, businesses, and communities, we will together reduce the spread of the pandemic.”

In addition to frontline medical workers, Nestlé Vietnam also supported border guards and functional forces in charge of the COVID-19 prevention and control activities across the southern border with 7,500 portions of nutritious food and beverage products under the Maggi, Nescafé, and Nestea brands with a total value of VND270 million ($11,740). Thus, in total Nestlé Vietnam has donated a total value of nearly VND1.8 billion ($78,260) to frontline forces.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Nestlé Vietnam has set five priorities to help overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, including 1) Ensuring the safety and welfare of employees, 2) Optimising supply, 3) Optimising distribution channels, 4) Adapt flexible consumer-brand approach, and 5) Supporting the government and the community.

In the past year, Nestlé Vietnam and La Vie, a member of Nestlé Group, have donated VND40 billion ($1.74 million) in products, cash, and 88,000 medical masks to aid Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight. The company has also offered support to small business partners affected by the pandemic like small restaurants, small eateries, and school canteens to overcome challenges with gifts of a total value of VND22 billion ($956,520).

The company has closely followed regulations on pandemic prevention in light of the government’s guidance and disseminated these regulations to all employees. Measures like wearing face masks, using hand sanitisers, measuring the body temperature of workers before entering the company, giving priority to online meetings, and increasing distancing in production areas, among others, have been observed meticulously.

On April 7, Nestlé Group has announced a CHF2 million ($2.15 million) donation to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund to support COVAX, the global facility for the procurement and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. This builds on the group’s ongoing efforts to support communities around the world during the pandemic.
