Suntory PepsiCo, a prominent player in Vietnam’s beverage industry, is signaling confidence in the country’s economic future with the construction of its largest-ever Asia-Pacific factory.

The $300 million project in Long An province near Ho Chi Minh City promises to boost the company’s market dominance while pushing Vietnam higher on investors’ radar.

The factory’s groundbreaking on April 8th underscores the mutually beneficial relationship between Vietnam and the global beverage giant.

Considering Vietnam is one of Suntory’s key markets, Mr. Takayuki Sanno, CEO of Suntory Food and Beverage Group Asia Pacific, stressed that “The new plant will significantly boost production capacity and accelerate product innovation in the region.”

Sustainable Growth, Vietnamese Style

This “mega-factory” is more than just a manufacturing powerhouse. Designed to operate on renewable energy sources, it aligns with Vietnam’s ambitious push to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. It will also launch products with 100% recycled plastic packaging.

The project received praise from Vietnamese officials. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung noted that it exemplifies the type of investment Vietnam seeks: “The project uses renewable energy as well as applies optimal technologies to help save resources, in accordance with Vietnam’s policy in attracting foreign investment.”

For Long An province, the factory is a major win. Nguyen Van Ut, Chairman of the Long An Provincial People’s Committee, highlighted the province’s efforts to attract modern, large-scale industrial projects with a focus on green technologies. Suntory PepsiCo’s investment is poised to make a significant contribution to the region’s economic development.

Suntory and Vietnam: A Long-Standing Partnership

This landmark project is just the latest in Suntory PepsiCo’s nearly 30-year presence in Vietnam. “The factory in Long An has the largest investment in the history of this enterprise in Vietnam,” affirmed Jahanzeb Khan, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam’s General Director.

In addition to its business goals, the company has been active in sustainable development initiatives. It has spearheaded environmental education programs, tree planting campaigns, and drives to improve access to clean water across Vietnam.

These efforts, coupled with its use of recycled materials and focus on healthier beverages, resonate with Vietnam’s rising consumer interest in sustainability and well-being.

The Bigger Picture

Suntory PepsiCo’s expansion signals the enduring attractiveness of Vietnam’s market for foreign investors. The factory positions the company to capitalize on the nation’s growing middle class and changing consumer preferences.

However, this investment is about more than just capturing market share. It highlights the evolving priorities of both businesses and the Vietnamese government – priorities focused on sustainable, long-term development that balances economic progress with environmental protection.
