Chip design tools maker Synopsys has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Information and Communications to advance semiconductor development in Vietnam.
The MOU was signed in Sunnyvale, California on September 18 (local time) with the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and ministers on the trip to the U.S.
Synopsys will support the Authority of Information Technology and Communications Industry under the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam in planning the establishment of a semiconductor research institute in Vietnam.
The cooperation aims to draft a strategy for establishing a high-level research and development (R&D) center, nurturing advanced semiconductor design startups, and enhancing R&D manufacturing capabilities in Vietnam.
Synopsys also signed an MOU on cooperation with the National Innovation Center, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, to promote the development of a talented integrated circuit design workforce and establish a chip design incubation center in Vietnam.
As part of his trip to the U.S., Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Synopsys and Nvidia companies in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, California.
In addition to witnessing the MOU signing ceremony mentioned above, the PM discussed with Jensen Huang, co-founder and current chairman of Nvidia, on the global trends in the development of artificial intelligence and the potential cooperation between Nvidia and Vietnamese firms.
He also invited Nvidia’s chairman to visit Vietnam, expressing hope for Nvidia to establish a manufacturing facility in Vietnam and consider Vietnam as a hub in Southeast Asia.
Before leaving San Francisco for Washington, D.C., PM Chinh visited Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and other products and services.
